Data Analyst

Job Duties

  • Develop and maintain automated reporting workflows and tools to streamline routine data reporting processes. Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and accuracy of recurring reports through process automation and scripting.Integrate data from multiple sources (student information systems, surveys, external databases), then clean and validate it to ensure a high level of data accuracy and integrity. Implement data quality checks and maintain standards to guarantee reliable information for analysis. Collaborate with data stewards (e.g. Registrar, Student Financial Aid, HR, etc.) to understand data definitions and resolve data anomalies/questions. Document the process for creating all routine electronic reports generated.
  • Integrate data from multiple sources (student information systems, surveys, external databases), then clean and validate it to ensure a high level of data accuracy and integrity. Implement data quality checks and maintain standards to guarantee reliable information for analysis. Collaborate with data stewards (e.g. Registrar, Student Financial Aid, HR, etc.) to understand data definitions and resolve data anomalies/questions. Document the process for creating all routine electronic reports generated.
  • Conduct benchmark analysis comparing UTC data with data from comparable, peer institutions. Respond to ad-hoc requests for data or analysis from campus stakeholders, providing accurate and official information in a timely manner. Serve as a resource on data issues and promote data-informed decision practices throughout the institution.
  • Design and produce interactive dashboards, reports, and data visualizations (using tools like Tableau or Power BI) that make complex data easily accessible and understandable for end-users. Ensure data is presented in a consistent, user-friendly manner to support decision-making across departments.
  • Prepare required institutional reports (e.g. IPEDS, UT System, THEC, and other federal/state reports) accurately and on time. Ensure all compliance data submissions meet defined standards and deadlines.


Job Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor degree in Psychology, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration or relevant field. At least 2 years of experience in data analysis, reporting, or data management, ideally working with complex data systems or large datasets. Experience working directly in Institutional Research/Institutional Effectiveness, Assessment, and/or Data Analytics/Business Intelligence offices.

Preferred Qualifications: Master degree in Analytics, Education, Psychology, Business or relevant field. Prior experience working in a higher education Institutional Research office or similar environment is highly desirable; Familiarity with standard higher-education reporting and survey requirements (such as IPEDS reporting, accreditation data submissions, or National Student Clearinghouse reports). This includes understanding definitions of common institutional metrics and ensuring consistency in reporting these figures.

The position requires a high level of accuracy, extraordinary attention to detail, solid proofreading skills, the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines, and the ability to adhere to ethical and legal standards in institutional research.
