Job Duties
- Extract, transform, and analyze data from multiple systems, including relational databases and other identified data sources, to support the underlying needs of the University Budget Model.
- Translate the business rules and requirements of the budget model into projects for University reporting systems, including data warehouse models for reports used by colleges and others.
- Manage and maintain the data and code used in the budget model and ensure that changes in organizational structures are maintained and aligned for the reliability and validity of the data.
- Develop reports that deliver data used in the budget model by developing dashboards, interactive worksheets/workbooks, and/or reports using appropriate tools.
- Proactively engage in data quality efforts to ensure data integrity and fidelity of the UBM in University data and reporting systems.
- Create and manage documentation for budget model data reporting for University webpages and the data dictionary.
- Regularly conducts and participates in post-implementation reviews of the budget model; monitors, analyzes, and reports on the impact of the budget model on various outcomes.
- Collaborate with data partners from across campus – including the Budget Office, Extended Studies, Campus Operations,
- Enrollment Services, Human Resources, Research and Economic Development, and others – regarding data that supports the University Budget Model.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, business, mathematics, or another discipline that involves substantial development of analytical, research, and technical competencies or the equivalent in applied work experience.
- Five years of professional experience in a role that requires skills similar to the essential duties of this position
- High level of technical competence, including SQL, SAS, R, or similar programming language to extract data from primary systems; experience with PeopleSoft or other enterprise reporting system
- Master’s degree in social sciences, educational research, business, economics, or another relevant discipline that involves extensive research methodology and reporting or the equivalent in applied work experience
- Strong Understanding and experience using complex data systems such as data warehouse structures.
- Analytical competence, including professional experience identifying and employing appropriate research methods for analyses to answer strategic, tactical, structured or unstructured business questions.
- Experience in institutional research, functional data areas, or other higher education analysis and reporting, including familiarity with higher education journals and literature.

The Office of Institutional Effectiveness (IE) aspires to advance Boise State University’s continuous improvement efforts by answering meaningful questions through data and analyses that inform decisions, stimulate action, and influence positive change. The Senior Institutional Research Analyst will extract, analyze, visualize, and describe a variety of institutional data for use internally for academic and financial planning and strategic decision-making. This role will provide institutional data focused largely on metrics that will support the underlying needs of the new University Budget Model. The senior analyst will focus on analysis and reports to better inform decision-making in the Colleges and University administrative units under the model in addition to other IE priorities that contribute to a data-informed culture at Boise State University.
