Job Duties
Under the general direction of the Director of Institutional Effectiveness, the Institutional Research (IR) Analyst will provide data support for institutional research and strategic decision-making by developing and improving data-driven analyses and analytic reporting. The incumbent will work with a variety of data types: student, faculty/staff, finance, and financial aid to support operational functions and planning for SUNY Old Westbury. This position is responsible for gathering, analyzing data and statistics, preparing reports, and using web-based reporting systems to improve data analysis for college leadership and other stakeholders. The IR Analyst responds to ad hoc requests for data and information, manages, and analyzes data. This position is the on-campus subject matter expert in establishing and maintaining data definitions standards and documentation for all data.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate with data requests and research for College Leadership.
- Assist with institutional and program accreditation efforts through data gathering/ collection, and communication with stakeholders.
- Data mining in Banner Tables to create customized reports using SQL.
- Use visualization application to produce tables, graphs, dashboards, and narrative analysis of data to easily display and summarize college data using Power BI.
- Prepare presentations for diverse audiences as needed.
- Provide data support for grants, occupational program planning, policy and procedure decision making.
- Assist with data validation and backup for the institutional compliance reporting.
- Coordinate with data owners in functional areas of the institution to ensure data is accurate and complete.
- Work with appropriate departments and staff to ensure data quality and identify improvement methods.
- Participate in committees and in other campus wide meetings as assigned.
- Develop, establish and maintain a data warehouse at Old Westbury
- Assist Director of Institutional Effectiveness and quality initiatives as assigned.
- Assist with ad hoc reporting requests as assigned.
- Anticipate, research, identify, and develop solutions for institutional improvements.
- Serve on the institution-wide Data Integrity and Management Group.
- Establish official data sets for use in ad hoc and annual internal operations reports.
- Maintain documentation of changes in data definitions, codes, standards, processes, and business rules.
- Responsible for understanding, supporting and actively demonstrating the College's beliefs, values, mission and vision and being in agreement to be evaluated by same.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics/Science, Statistics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Programming or related area.
- Two to three years of experience in data collection and analysis and reporting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Power BI.
- Experience with data cleaning, collection, maintenance, and report development.
- Experience with SQL program or equivalent.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and report presentation skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships internally and externally.
- Strong analytical skills, with attention to detail and the ability to thrive in a data-oriented, analytical environment.
- Strong customer service skills and listening skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate and concise information in systems.

Salary Range is $55,151.00 - $60,000.00 (plus location pay $3,400.00) commensurate with experience and education
