A New Approach to Creating a College Ratings System

Webinar: April 17, 2–3 p.m. ET
Pricing: $0 AIR members / $75 nonmembers
In 2024, NORC published College Ranking Systems: A Methodological Review. The work, which was funded by Vanderbilt University, assessed the construct validity of five college rankings systems and found significant and pervasive methodological challenges. These start with the conceptualization of what is measured, and then extend to how concepts are measured in data elements drawn from various data sources, and finally to how the data/information are processed and presented using various methodologies. NORC has now partnered with Vanderbilt and several other institutions to develop an alternative approach to providing students and their advisors with information to help their college search, drawing on existing and novel data sources and new technologies to create a personalized, engaging, and credible source for this important information.
As a result of this experience, participants can:
- Understand the NORC proposals for a new college ratings system.
- Understand how your institution might be able to engage.
- Provide feedback to the NORC team.
