AIR Urges Clarification and Support for Financial Value Transparency and Gainful Employment Reporting

  • by AIR

AIR is among more than 40 higher education associations expressing concerns to the U.S. Department of Education regarding the reporting requirements for the Financial Value Transparency (FVT) and Gainful Employment (GE) regulations. Despite a recent deadline extension from October 1, 2024, to January 15, 2025, institutions face significant challenges in meeting the requirements due to unclear guidance, resource constraints, and administrative complexities.

In a letter sent November 12 to the Department, the associations identified several key challenges, including:

  • Unclear guidance and delayed responses
  • Need for consistent communication
  • Concerns of additional reporting requirements
  • Timing and implementation of metrics
  • Resource constrains at under-resourced institutions

The associations stressed that meeting the January 15 deadline would be difficult for most institutions, likely leading to errors that undermine the accuracy and reliability of the data. They urged the Department to address institutional resource limitations and provide clearer, more timely guidance to ensure effective compliance.

The letter highlights the need for collaboration between institutions and the Department to achieve the shared goal of generating accurate, actionable data while avoiding undue burdens on higher education institutions and their stakeholders.
