Job Duties: Provide research, education, and outreach services for Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe Community College (LCOOCC) and the surrounding community. Responsible for managing and facilitating a research grant that investigates the influence of forest management on the prey base of the American Marten in Northern Wisconsin together with instructing 6-9 credits per academic year in the area of science or natural resources.
Research Grant Responsibilities: Manage and fulfill grant obligations through: 1.) Collaborate with Project partners, 2.) Establish and implement methodology for vegetative surveys, small mammal surveys, and camera surveys within the Chequamegon National Forest, 3.) Recruit and train student interns, 4.) Purchase supplies and equipment for project, 5.) Provide targeted natural resource education and training to community, 6.) Provide educational resources and opportunities for faculty, staff, and students, and 7.) Adopt systems and structure to sustain and continue the project beyond the current grant funding period.
Instructor Responsibilities: Instruct 6-9 credits per academic year in the area of science or natural resources. (e.g.: Field Methods, Environmental Science, etc.) Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Natural Resources or related field (Bachelor’s of Science in Biology and enrolled in an accredited Master’s Degree program in Natural Resources or related field scheduled to be completed within three years of hire would be acceptable). Experience leading and conducting data analysis and field research required. Experience in small mammal, vegetative, camera and/or large mammal survey techniques. Must have the ability to conduct field research in a backcountry setting. Proven experience in creating and providing education, presentations and training to organizations, volunteers or students. Good written and oral communication skills with the ability to work in and guide teams of people. Strong computer skills a must. Ability to conduct statistical analyses of field data. Ability to disseminate study results and findings to conservation agencies and public organizations. Demonstrated ability to prepare and manage grants. Prior experience using GPS and GIS technologies desirable. Background in mammalogy a plus.
