The Association for Institutional Research (AIR), with support from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), the National Science Foundation (NSF), and the National Postsecondary Education Cooperative (NPEC), sponsors a grant program titled: Improving Institutional Research in Postsecondary Educational Institutions. The goals of this program are to provide professional development opportunities to doctoral students, institutional researchers, educators, and administrators, and to foster the use of federal databases for institutional research in postsecondary education. | Research Grants/Dissertation Fellowships - The research grant program provides grants to Principal Investigators (PIs) to conduct research on postsecondary education using the NCES and NSF national databases and, under the NPEC grant program, research using other methods. Funds of up to $40,000 annually are available. Dissertation fellowship proposals are solicited from doctoral students beginning their dissertation work. Fellowships of up to $20,000 to support one year of activity are available. The next proposal cycle will open in the fall of 2008 and close in January 2009. Exact dates will be announced soon. National Summer Data Policy Institute Fellowships - The National Summer Data Policy Institute is a one week intensive session held in June in the Washington, D.C. area. Fellows should have at least a working knowledge of statistical methods and be experienced in the use of software packages (i.e., SPSS, SAS). The 2008 Institute will be held June 8-15. The next proposal cycle will open in the fall of 2008 and close in January 2009. Exact dates will be announced soon. AIR-AACC-NCCCRP Data and Decisions Workshop for Community Colleges - This Workshop is targeted to college leaders who would like to improve their understanding of how to base strategic decisions on data—targeted information about their own institution and up-to-date information about peer institutions when necessary. The ability to access, analyze and convert data into strategic information is critical to institutions operating in today’s ever-changing educational climate. Applications for the 2008 Workshop will be accepted September 2 - October 1, 2008. Summer Institute on First-Year Assessment - In cooperation with the Association for Institutional Research (AIR), and the National Resource Center for The First-Year Experience and Students in Transition, a number of competitive fellowships for the 2008 Institute are offered. The Proposal deadline is September 1, 2008. | AIR/NCES Postdoctoral Policy Fellowships in Washington - A project funded by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). Postdoctoral Fellow positions will be responsible for undertaking analysis that results in improvements to the quality, comparability, and usefulness of the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS). Fellows will be introduced to the Washington higher education policy community through meetings, seminars and conversations. It is expected that Fellows will be advanced graduate students completing dissertations, postdoctoral students, or institutional research professionals. AIR/NCES Fellowships for Graduate Study - With support from NCES, AIR offers a fellowship program for graduate study leading to a career in institutional research.
